Salalah Methanol Holds a Gathering to Introduce Ammonia

Released on: 09/11/2015 Salalah Methanol Company (SMC) organized a gathering on the 9th of November, 2015 at the Hilton Salalah that involved a number of representatives from the private and government sectors, people from the neighboring community, media representatives and those concerned in health, education, and economy in Dhofar and Salalah Methanol representatives. The gathering aimed to inform the audience about the planned expansion of Salalah Methanol Company to include Ammonia.
The gathering included presentations about SMC and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The presentation covered some general facts about the Company, as well as highlighting some of the major CSR initiatives that were implemented throughout the last three years since the Company started its CSR activities.
Another presentation was given with information about Ammonia as a product and information about in-country local value. The plan was mentioned in the Ammonia presentation, which is to build 1000 MPTD Ammonia plant using Purge Gas from the existing SMC methanol, at the current Salalah Methanol site. Ammonia is a key chemical for making fertilizers such as urea, ammonium nitrate, ammonium phosphate and compounds as well as a variety of industrial applications such as synthetic resins (urea‐based), synthetic fibers (acrylics and nylons),polyurethanes and refrigeration.
At the end of the gathering, the opportunity was given to the audience to ask questions and give their feedback on the project.
